Environment

POSCO Argentina manages the environmental performance of the Sal de Oro Project through a rigorous approach based on risk assessment, management and monitoring. We comply with current regulations and align with the most demanding international standards, such as IRMA and the IFC Performance Standards.

Comprehensive Protection

Environmental and Social Assessment

We assess project performance across all stages, from construction to operation and closure, through Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs). These allow us to identify impacts, define management measures and establish monitoring programs.

Components of our studies
  • Environmental and social baseline
  • Identification of impacts and risks
  • Prevention and control measures
  • Monitoring programs
  • Contingency plans
  • Participation processes
Mitigation Hierarchy

Our management measures are applied following a logical and responsible sequence.

1. Avoid

Prevent impacts from the design stage.

2. Minimize

Reduce the duration, intensity or scope of the impact.

3. Restore

Recover affected ecosystems to their original condition.

4. Offset

Generate equivalent environmental benefits when necessary.

Environmental Management Plan (EMP)

We implement a cross-cutting EMP that establishes guidelines and procedures to prevent, control and mitigate impacts. It applies to all project stages and is mandatory for all employees and contractors.

Performance and Monitoring

We continuously assess environmental performance through programs defined in the Environmental Impact Declarations (DIA) and IFC and IRMA standards.

The results ensure the quality, integrity and traceability of information, enabling periodic reporting to authorities and supporting decision-making.

Air Quality

Control of emissions, particulate matter and atmospheric conditions.

Soil

Management of disturbed areas and impact prevention programs.

Waste

Classification, treatment and final disposal of generated waste.

Water

Constant monitoring of surface water, groundwater and efficient use.

Biodiversidad

Comprehensive protection of ecosystems and native flora and fauna.

Hazardous Substances

Strict handling protocols for chemicals and materials.
